After downloading the Sim Coupe Emulator it brought back memories of my early days with The SAM Coupé I got mine through mail order,(I don’t remember where from,it was the natural progression from the ZX Spectrum), but it came WITHOUT the slim line floppy disk drive, as they were not yet ready from the manufacturers. So there was an installation tape, which took just under half an hour to load. God, what we put up with in the early days of the Coupé. I also subscribed to some magazines on floppy disk early on when the disk drive came. The first one was Sam Supplement shortly followed by FRED of which I still have them all. I don’t know if they are still published or are under copyright but if anyone knows how to copy the disks, as I have a PC now and have had one since 1997.

My Power Pack packed up many years ago so this is the first time I have seen the Coupé in almost 10 years, can’t get the disks to load on this emulator, hope there is some body out there that can help.

It would be nice to hear from a few old Coupe friends that I met at the old FORMAT SHOWS down in Gloucester in particular Dave Tonks from Walsall Bob Brenchley Editor of the Format magazine of which I have volumes 1-11

Hope to hear from you soon. Still having fun with Computers

Related Items/Search Index

Site Maintenance

I’ve just noticed that the entries I put in the other day are not searchable or appear in ‘Related Items’ since the pinkstuff server rebuild.

Also it may (or may not) be a good time to ask about the possibility of the ‘Related Items’ search doing a ‘firstword AND secondword’ type search rather than a ‘firstword OR secondword’?

An alteration to the SAM81 emulator to make it compatible with pseudo-hires and hires games.

This is the first version of SAM2_ZX81 for hires and pseudo-hires ZX81 programs by Johan Koelman.

After booting (F9) the emulator it came up waiting for a key press. Once done, you are in the ZX81 mode. To load a program simply type in:

LOAD “1” (if you are on Sim Coupe or on floppy disk with a real SAM) or

LOAD “2” (if you will load from SAMs harddisk)

A menu will be displayed, showing you all the programs to load.

Note: When a program is loaded, it will not autostart.
When you see 0/0 in the upper part of screen, simply type RUN and voila, you see a HiRes Zeddy game emulated on a SAM. Except “Micmouse”, type in GOTO 5 to start.

Even it is the alpha version, Johan has build in some extra keysettings:

F1 - shows you a help screen:
Press F1 again to return to the main program.

Press when help screen is shown:

F2 - for more or less screen refreshs
F3 - for more or less counted clock interrupts

These options can be very helpful on pseudo and hires games. The changes are not shown, this might be added later!

To exit a program pess TAB and ESCAPE together.

Programs included:

  • Rocket
  • Madjump II
  • Flater en Flaters (Guus-Fla)
  • Micromouse goes debugging
  • Starfight

The ‘SAM2_ZX81’ can also load normal ZX81 programs, as I have tested several times.

SAM2_GB - Gameboy emulator

News

From Johan Koelman

“After SAM2ZX81 I am working on a new emulator, named SAM2GB.

This is a gameboy emulator running on a standard SAM Coupe, without i.e. a Mayhem Accelerator.

The progress can be followed at http://www.zxspectrum.00freehost.com/sam2_gb.htm

Greetings,

Dr Beep”
