The fix is a simple one: remove inductor L5 and replace it with a wire link.

Born in Sigmaringen, Germany in 1972. Got in touch with the Sinclair world ~1983. First computer was a rubber ZX Spectrum 16K. Using ZX emulators on various systems over the years, he started using (and collecting) Sinclair and MGT hardware again. He attended some of the big computer meetings, such as Spectrum 30, QL30, most German meetings and the Classic Computing. He´s also an active member of the German ZX-Team.

Keyboard and Joystick port

The Sam uses a membrane based keyboard much like the ZX Spectrum with flying ribbons back to the two Molex connectors on the Internal PCB to form the keyboard matrix.

The keyboard membrane will, like the ZX Spectrum’s, degrade over time leading to breaks or fractures on the tracks on the flyleads. This can often be repaired with conductive paint or with replacement membranes from 3rd parties.
Joystick:
The joystick port also connects to this matrix but with a deviation from the standard Atari pin-out to allow two joysticks via a splitter by offering two different ground lines that drive different lines on the address bus, A12 for Joystick 1 (standard) and A11 for the second.
There was another modification from Edwin Blink that allowed three joysticks to be connected.

Arguably the first Coupé ‘tracker’, a converted (under Spectrum emulation) copy of AY Amadeus to use the SAA1099 soundchip rather than the ZX Spectrum 128k’s AY-3-8910.

This program made by the Czech coder and musician F. Fuka was the first music editor and sound tracker for the Sam Coupé´s Philips SAA 1099 music chip. The predecessor is a ZX Spectrum AY-chip-music routine named Amadeus.
How to run this music editor?
1. boot the disk: press F9 (or num9 in the emulator) and
2. list the directory: type DIR 1
3. load some of the 5 songs: LOAD 2 (or LOAD 3 etc.), next the editor: LOAD 7
4. Spectrum basic wakes up, then press R and RETURN (RUN)
Songs consist of segments. Change the segment with SHIFT+ESC or SHIFT+TAB. Play the segment by pressing the key RETURN. CNTRL plays the whole song.
EDIT (right ALT in emulator) switches to noise, volume, frequency etc. settings and back again
Question. Stable Operating ROM

FAQHi I have one of the first machines and recently found this page,can you tell me which version of the Sam’s operating ROM is the most stable as I believe early ROM versions had floppy drive issues. Also can you download the best version as I would like to upgrade my machine. Thanks
